Yesterday I found myself in a bit of a pickle.....It was time to get the kids up from nap, and I wasn't done getting all my things together for the Valentine Banquet decoration meeting. I had to be at the church by 5 with the rest of the ladies, but yet, I had to finish cutting out the letters and hearts, and find some fruit pictures to print off, and type up the fruits of the spirit, and get all my things in the car and ready to go, and make supper, and be out the door by 4:45! So like a mad woman, I was putting my things together, finishing up cutting stuff out and printing stuff off, and had to quick come up with something to make for supper! Well, I was in luck that one of the recipes I wanted to try was Maid Rites. I've had them before, just never made them. I usually just stick with sloppy joe's. Well, these are pretty much the same, just without the "sloppy" part! I beat the clock, and got everything done and the food ready for the boys and was out the door. However, I did not have time to take a picture.
Now for those of you who may not know?!?! I don't recall ever hearing of maid rites until I was in college. And only tried it for the first time not that long ago. It's super simple....and even more simple when you have the hamburger pre-cooked and in the freezer ready and at your disposal! Yay for organization in one area! :) So, they are hamburgers....it's just that the hamburger is not in patty form, it's in loosely cooked hamburger form.
Maid Rites
2 lbs hamburger
1/2 cup ketchup
2 Tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp vinegar
2 Tbsp onion
Celery salt
pepper
Brown the hamburger and add everything else and simmer until heated through.
Wha-la.

Okay have you never had a real authentic Iowa Maid Rite? Because these although they look good are not the same as Maid Rites. They don't have ketchup or anything saucy in them. Where did you get this recipe?
