Craft Time v3

This was yet another left over VBS craft.

You can decide how much you want to prep and how much you want to have your child do depending on their age.

Materials needed:
Soup can
nail
acrylic paint
paint brushes
28 gauge wire
rope
Pencils
small seashells
hot glue gun
scissors

Here's where you decide what you want to do ahead of time, and how much you want the child to participate in.

1.  Use a nail to punch a hole near the top on opposite sides of each can.
2.  Paint cans light blue(ocean themed, or any other color to give it a base color) and allow to dry.  To paint without touching the painted surface, place your hand inside the can while painting.
3. Cut 20" length of wire for each can.
4. Cut 16" length of rope for each can.
5. Use a hot flue gun to attach a small seashell to each end of each piece of rope. (you could use something else if you want, this is based on an ocean theme)
6. Use paint to decorate your can with an undersea scene or a simple pattern.  We used foam fish stickers instead of painting.
7.  Wrap your entire wire around a pencil and gently slide the pencil our of the coil.
8.   Put one end of the coiled wire through one hole at the top of the can and twist it to anchor it.  Attach the other end of the coiled wire through the other side and gently stretch your wire to form a handle.
9. Tie your rope around the can with a bow or a double knot.

This is a treasure can, to store your simple treasures at home.  Like pencils, pens, or small toys.
Don't forget to incorporate what the Bible says about storing up treasures on earth.

Matthew 6:19-21
19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
