Manicotti

Manicotti

Manicotti noodles
1 (15 oz) container Ricotta cheese
1 1/2 cups mozz
3/4 cup parmesan
1 egg
2 tsp parsley
1/2 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1 jar marinara sauce

Don't cook the pasta shells.
In a large bowl combine the rest of the ingredients except the sauce and noodles. Pour a little of the sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Stuff the UNCOOKED shells with the cheesy mixture. Top with the rest of the sauce. Bake at 325 for 55-65 minutes.

This is the same recipe I've made and posted before, only I learned a little tip along the way.  Now I can use the actual manicotti noodles instead of the large shells.  I just don't cook the noodles first.  That makes it easier to stuff them.  Then, put cellophane on the pan tightly, then cover with tinfoil.  Now you may be saying, "WHAT are you talking about?"  You can't cook something in the oven with cellophane on it. :)  Well that's what I thought at first, but someone told me to do it, so I tried it.  it worked great.  I didn't have to cook the noodles, and the cellophane helped hold in  more moisture than just tinfoil would hold in, and the lower, longer cook time allowed the noodles to cook from the moisture in the oven/pan.  Awesome trick.  Try it for yourself.

Reuse your Books-rehash

I've talked about reusing your homeschool books prior....click here for the original post.

Just a little reminder about being frugal!  You don't need to buy 4 of the same book just because you have 4 children, or whatever your number is!  You can use a dry erase marker and sheet protectors then you can use the book as many times as you want.  And really all you need is one sheet protector!

Check it out!  You can even do it with different shaped books.

This is our Handwriting without Tears book, and instead of your traditional upright book, it's horizontal.  Since it's still within the 9x11 shape I didn't need to cut down the sheet protector, just put it on sideways.  Now you can even reuse this different shaped book!  One sheet protector goes a long ways!

Stained Glass Craft-Rehash

We did this well over a year ago.  This time we added to it.  Check it out!
First find a your old crayons and, with an adults help, make small little shavings of the crayon colors.

This time we cut out a word to put in the window....we cut out the name JESUS.

Use a towel (you don't care about) and place some newspaper on top.  Then put your wax paper on top, add your name/word, and start sprinkling your crayon shavings wherever.

When you are done, put another piece of wax paper over top of your wax paper/crayon decoration.  Then top that wax paper with more newspaper.

Next, with a warm iron, iron over the newspaper to melt the crayon wax and this melts the two sheets of wax paper together.

We then cut off the rough edges to make a square or rectangle shape. And added strips of construction paper (1 inch) to make a frame for our window.  We put the frame on both sides.

Display your art in the window to see it's true beauty!

Art Idea, rehash

I told you about how I got this Art idea from a picture I bought in a previous post.

Now I see letters all over the place, and so I take pictures of them.  I'll put them together some day to make a word, or a sentence or something. :)

Do you see the letter in the pattern?  Check em out!  Now maybe you'll starting seeing the letters in things all around you!

I think my personal favorite so far is making the flower into an E!  Love it.  Did you get the I out of the ski lift?  The roots of the tree coming out of the ground could really be an E, W or M depending on which way you turn the picture.

What do you think?  Is this too abstract of an idea for you?  Or are you going to look for letters in the things around you now?

If two's a couple, rehash

Did you read my previous post on this?

If two's a couple....

Well, now that you've read it or re-read it to refresh your memory on TJ's seriousness to this case, here's my rehash.

The other day we were in the car, and TJ....yes TJ himself was talking to Monkey about something.  Monkey asked a question, and TJ's response was, "Yes there probably are a few."  So Monkey said, "Oh, so there's only 3!"  But there were in fact more than 3!  TJ looked at me and I laughed at him!  He didn't follow through with his own rule!

It was hilarious....and really only because TJ is so serious about this matter.  I'm not kidding you.  He very much dislikes it when you use it incorrectly.  And then he did it himself.

I couldn't help but laugh at him.
